The Community Health and Healthcare Systems Research Group at ISPM welcomed a delegation from the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC) Singapore for a learning exchange about a range of topics, including healthy aging, palliative care, and care integration last October 21.
Led by deputy CEO Noel Cheah, the AIC delegation shared about the challenges posed by an aging population in Singapore and how the agency, as an arm of the Ministry of Health, works to create a vibrant care community for older people to maintain their health and wellbeing and age gracefully.
Prof. Annika Frahsa, who leads the Community Health and Healthcare Systems Research Group, provided an overview of the University of Bern and ISPM, as well as an in-depth discussion of the group’s research portfolio in Switzerland and Germany in the areas of health promotion, physical activity, and health equity in relation to older people.
Prof. Sofia Zambrano, who leads the Palliative Care and End of Life Research Group, shared about their group’s research on the topics of emotions in end-of-life communication, physician moral distress, and a collaboration on psychological harm with Prof. David Schwappach from the Patient Safety in Health Services Research Group at ISPM
The session concluded not only with a rich exchange of ideas but also with mutual interest among partners to remain in contact and explore areas for further scientific engagement.
This visit was facilitated by Dr Harvy Joy Liwanag, postdoctoral research fellow in ISPM. The University of Bern Faculty of Medicine also maintains a strategic partnership with Singapore through the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine of the National University of Singapore.
